The Qinglang, or clean-up cyberspace campaign, which was first launched in 2016 by the government of China, now turns its focus on the gaslighting of Chinese businesses and entrepreneurs online. Today, the country's internet watchdog, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), announced its three-month campaign intending to root out fake news.
The announcement comes on the heels of the recently held press conference during which the CAC's head was placed high on the organ's agenda the online business arena. It also coincides with several crippling scenarios, including the increase in attacks on Chinese businesses and entrepreneurs online, economic slowdown resulting from the effects of COVID-19 and a highly regulatory global business environment.
