Finland and the United States have signed a Joint Statement on Cooperation in Advanced Wireless Communications in Helsinki. According to the Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto (Greens) and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the agreement will make the roll-out of 6G technology more transparent. Blinken added that the US plans to mobilise significant funding, along with its allies and partners, to support infrastructure development in countries that need it most, ensuring transparency in the process.
According to the Joint Statement, the collaboration between Finland and the US aims to establish 'a global approach toward sustainable, competitive, secure, trustworthy technology and supplier-neutral 6G technologies.' CEO of Nordic West Office, a global affairs consultancy and think tank, Risto E.J. Penttil?, stated that 6G is part of NATO's strategy and that such an initiative will eliminate Finland's and Sweden's dependency on Chinese technology.
