New York Governor Andrew Cuomo initiated legislation that will obligate companies to prominently disclose information about IoT devices (including cell phones) that can record, retain, and transmit recordings. The bill, if passed, would require smart device manufacturers to disclose the capabilities of a device prior to its setup so that owners can control the settings accordingly. The disclosure would enable consumers to make informed decisions when choosing which devices to buy.
