The Ugandan government has decided toimpose a tax on the use of social media in an effort to increase revenue. Users will be charged with a daily rate of 200 shillings ($0,0531) to use services such as Facebook, Twitter and Whatsapp. The government's plans have drawn criticism over the last months and is feared to stifle freedom of expression and political organisation. The law is due to take effect in July 2019 and will be collected daily by mobile phone operators.
