A US federal judge dismissed two antitrust lawsuits filed by the Federal Trade Commission and more than 40 states against Facebook. The ruling stated that the main federal and state governments argument that Facebook has a monopoly over social networking lacks proof to back the claim. The judge considered the FTC definition for social media too vague. Moreover, the judge considered that the FTC is attached to an interpretation of antitrust law that is anchored in consumer prices and Facebook is a free service. The FTC has 30 days to try to file a complaint with more details. Facebook commented on the case by affirming that "we compete fairly every day to earn people's time and attention".
