The US Supreme Court declined Facebook's appeal to scale back a US$15 billion lawsuit accusing them of illegally tracking internet activities of their users. The US Supreme Court's decline allows the case against Facebook to continue.
Plaintiffs claim that Facebook violated the California Privacy Rights Act and the federal Wiretap Act by tracking users' online activities without their consent. According to Reuters, Facebook allegedly tracked their users when they were logged out of the platform, and by using the 'like' button, plug-ins, and cookies to collect data on users over a significant length of time, before selling it to advertisers.
