Anthropic pioneered the Model Context Protocol (MCP) open standard for connecting AI assistants and agents to data systems seamlessly and securely. Since MCP's introduction last year, the standard has become increasingly adopted across the industry, including by Microsoft, OpenAI, and Google. Now, the company is expanding capabilities for developers. 

Claude Code support for remote MCP

On Wednesday, Anthropic announced that it would allow users to integrate Claude Code with any remote MCP servers. Claude Code is a powerful feature that lets professionals use the coding assistant directly in their workspace to write or manage code, whether that's in the terminal, inside their IDE, or running in the background.

With the update, developers can use Claude Code to access third-party services, including dev tools and project management systems. Using MCP, developers can pull information from desired sources securely and efficiently, creating personalized workflows that leverage specific tools or data sources in Claude Code. As more MCP servers become available, opportunities for developers will continuously increase. 

Use cases

Anthropic highlights partner use cases, such as integrating Claude Code with the Sentry MCP server, allowing developers to query errors and retrieve stack traces directly from Sentry for in-terminal debugging. Another integration with Linear enables Claude Code to access real-time issue details and project status.

The launch of Claude 4 has boosted user interest: Claude Code's user based saw a160% increase in demand in the three weeks since the model's release. Furthermore, Anthropic hit$3 billion in annualized revenue, marking a 200% increase in just five months, according to a Reuters report. 

Anthropic is riding that momentum by releasing new features. Earlier this month, the company announced it's making Claude Code available to Pro Plans, granting subscribers access to both Claude Code and Claude with the$20 per month subscription.
