Google accused of 'stealing' the Project Loon idea

Space Data Corporation has accused Google's Project Loon to infringe on their patents. Project Loon aims to disseminate Wifi access by using balloons and has started its testing phase in Sri Lanka this year. According to Space Data, Google uses confidential information and trade secrets as the basis of the project, which were discussed between the two parties almost ten years ago. Space Data's patents on 'balloon-network connectivity' originate from 1999 and 2001, long before the development of Project Loon.
