In a post on X today, T?Mobile CEO Mike Sievert announced that the company's T?Satellite service, powered by Starlink, is officially out of beta and available to anyone, including Verizon and AT&T customers.

How it works

With more than 650 satellites in orbit, T?Mobile says its network is the largest satellite?to?mobile constellation on the planet.

Starlink connectivity will allow both Android and iOS users to send SMS messages or share their location without a traditional cell connection. MMS messaging and picture messaging are coming down the line, as is data usage for selected apps like WhatsApp, AllTrails, AccuWeather, and X.

T?Satellite will work on more than 60 phone models, T?Mobile says, and there's no setup required. You don't even need to download an additional app or change any settings.

If you're a subscriber, your phone will automatically connect if you're in an area with no cell coverage. You don't necessarily have to point your phone at the sky, but you will need a clear view of the sky.

How much it costs

The service will cost$10 a month "for a limited time" before the price increases to$15. It's already included in the company's$170?a?month Experience Beyond plans.

Apple offers a similar feature for iPhone users, and, at least for now, Apple's is significantly more robust. iPhone users can send and receive messages, contact emergency services, share their location through the Find My network, get roadside assistance and weather reports, and more. For now, T?Satellite only allows you to send and receive text messages.

T?Mobile isn't alone in offering satellite service. Verizon debuted satellite texting last year, and AT&T followed in the spring of this year.
