The UK's NHSX AI Lab, a joint unit of the Department of Health and Social Care, the National Health Service (NHS) England, and the NHS Improvement, recently published a report, titled A Buyer's Checklist for AI in Health and Care. The checklist provides ten key questions which parties in healthcare should consider when they deploy artificial intelligence (AI) solutions. Highlighting how the COVID-19 pandemic presents an opportunity to increase the pace and scale of application of innovative digital solutions, the NHSX states that organisations need to ensure that any AI technology they purchase meets the safety and efficacy standards. Some of the points in the guideline include: (a) Is AI the right solution for the problem? (b) Can a procurement process for this technology ensure its transparency, fairness, and competitiveness? (c) Can this product do what it claims it can?
