If you have any Wemo smart devices in your home, you should start planning an upgrade -- because you only have about six months left to use them.
In an email to users today, Wemo announced that it was ending support for nearly all of its smart devices sold over the last 10 years on Jan. 31, 2026, including light switches, plugs, and more.

"After careful consideration," the email reads, "we have made the difficult decision to end technical support for older Wemo products, effective Jan. 31, 2026." Belkin added that it has been "committed to providing consumers with innovative, simple-to-use accessories for a seamless smart home experience," but it was time to "focus our resources on different parts of the Belkin business."
Wemo says the Wemo app used to control devices will no longer be supported after Jan. 31, and any features that rely on cloud connectivity, like remote access and voice assistant integrations through Alexa and Google Home, will no longer work. Essentially, your light switches will become standard switches you push to turn the lights on or off, and nothing more -- no smart features at all. Technical support, firmware and software updates, and troubleshooting assistance for affected products will also stop on that date.
If your Wemo product is still under warranty on or after Jan. 31, 2026, you might be eligible for a small refund, but that doesn't apply to the majority of products. You can find more details about that process here.
Here's the complete list of affected devices and their last sold date:
A handful of Thread-based devices -- like the Wemo 3-Way Smart Light Switch (WLS0503), the Wemo Stage Smart Scene Controller (WSC010), the Wemo Smart Plug with Thread (WSP100), and the Wemo Smart Video Doorbell Camera -- are not affected by this shutdown.
I'm not sure exactly why, but several years ago I chose Wemo as my smart home lighting ecosystem. I have four switches and three plugs, all of which I've had no trouble with since the day I installed them. Amazon has its own brand now for under$15 a switch, so I'll probably make the switch there.

This move once again demonstrates the danger of cloud-dependent devices. If the company decides to (literally) pull the plug, you're out of luck.
