The Council of Europe's Ad hoc Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CAHAI) has launched a multistakeholder consultation to gather views that will feed into the work of its Legal Frameworks Group. The group is in charge of preparing the main elements of a legal framework on the design, development, and application of artificial intelligence (AI), based on the Council of Europe's standards on human rights, democracy, and the rule of law, and in line with the feasibility study adopted by the CAHAI in December 2020. The envisioned elements will cover issues such as the values and principles on which the design, development, and application of AI should be based, the areas where more safeguards are needed, and the kind of policies and solutions that need to be adopted for AI systems to be respectful of the Council of Europe's values. The consultation -open until 29 April 2021 -is dedicated to representatives of institutional actors (i.e. not individuals), including representatives of governments and public administrations, international organisations, businesses, civil society groups, academia, and the technical community.
