Following an in-depth investigation, the European Commission (EC) has approved the acquisition of FitBit by Google for US$2.1 billion. The EC voiced concerns that this acquisition would harm competition in the areas of advertising, by restriction of access to the Fitbit Web API by competitors of Google, and could cause degradation of their interoperability with Android smartphones. Google has therefore committed to address these concerns for the next 10 years on the territory of the European Economic Area.
