Huawei launched a cloud platform to help Uzbekistan fight COVID-19

May 06, 2020

Huawei and Uzbektelecom, JSC deployed a video cloud platform for remote collaboration and education.

Currently Uzbekistan makes every effort to control and prevent the spread of COVID-19. Quarantine measures involve every citizen and every organization. One of the main demands nowadays is the necessity to stay in touch with the family and to stay connected for work and online collaboration. Huawei recently worked with Uzbekistan Telecom, using the latter's existing bandwidth and data center resources, to quickly deploy the Huawei video cloud platform. The platform supports remote access across the country in diverse sectors, including Uzbekistan's government, its hospitals, as well as schools and enterprises.

To quickly roll out services, Huawei set up a videoconferencing platform operational team at its Shenzhen headquarters. The team included specialists from the HQ Intelligent Collaboration Solution Project Group, who provided remote commissioning support. With such expert support, solution design and requirement specifications, FusionCompute and video cloud platform deployment and rollout, and O&M training for Uzbek engineers on top of that, were all completed within just four days.

Nazirjon Hasanov, the CEO of Uzbekistan Telecom, said: "We are grateful for all the technical support that Huawei has provided to help us effectively fight the epidemic. We hope that we can continue to strengthen our cooperation with Huawei in the future and overcome difficulties together."

Huawei supports the endeavor of the nation-wide carrier to make a difference for the people during the pandemic using leading technology and aspires to further the collaboration in order to overcome any possible challenges together.

The cloud videoconferencing platform

The cloud videoconferencing platform can support more than 1000 concurrent video conferences, with further capacity expansion possible through simply adding more Virtual Machines (VMs). Uzbektelecom has already released the Huawei TE Desktop and TE Mobile installation package. The platform also provides 10 Gbit/s ultra-large access bandwidth, to ensure that users across the country can have fast remote access to the resources they need. With the official launch of the video service, Huawei also worked with Uzbektelecom to quickly allocate key accounts to governments, hospitals, and schools, helping end users quickly learn about the tool. The video services have been implemented nationwide, helping to protect the country from the new coronavirus pandemic.
