Lawmakers in Brazil's lower house of Congress have approved a bill that would require local authorities to regulate ride-hailing services like Uber. In accordance with the bill, authorities will have to authorise such services, while also being able to impose taxes and require employment benefits for drivers. The bill, which still needs to be approved by the Senate, could also result in Uber-like services being interrupted in cities that lack regulation.According to Reuters, Uber has reacted saying that the bill is 'a backward law that does not seek to regulate Uber, but to turn it into a taxi (operator)'. [Update] Brazil president is reportedly planning to veto these provisions of the bill, if they are not removed by the Senate.
