Microsoft has announced it won a contract to provide the US Army with augmented reality headsets. Over the past two years, the company worked with the US Army on the prototyping phase of the Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) programme, which is now ready to move into the production phase. The IVAS headset, based on Microsoft's HoloLens, is expected to 'deliver a platform that will keep soldiers safer and make them more efficient', by delivering 'enhanced situational awareness, [and] enabling information sharing and decision-making in a variety of scenarios'. The contract could be worth US$21.88 billion over 10 years.
