New US law could hold e-commerce companies liable for counterfeits sold on their platforms

The 'Stopping Harmful Offers on Platforms by Screening Against Fakes in E-commerce Act of 2020' (SHOP SAFE Act of 2020) was introduced into the US Congress. It will typically be considered by committee next before it is possibly sent to the US House of Representatives or the Senate as a whole. The draft law outlines a series of steps that e-commerce platforms must take to prevent the sale of knockoffs by sellers on their platforms; while holding companies liable for the sale of counterfeits.
