The US-based Stanford Universityannounced the official launch of the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI), whose mission is to advance AI research, education, policy, and practice, to improve the human condition. The institute's work will be guided by three key principles: AI's impact on humanity must be studied and forecast, and the development of AI must be guided in light of that impact; AI applications should augment human capabilities, not replace humans; and AI must be as subtle and nuanced as human intelligence. In addition to research work, HAI will also initiate AI-related educational programmes for businesses, policymakers, attorneys, journalists, and other professionals, as well as programmes focused on diversifying the AI workforce of tomorrow. In addition, the institute will host policy summits and forums where multiple stakeholders will discuss AI policy challenges and possible solutions.
