Areport by the NSPCC, a UK children's charity, found that British ministers have failed to take on board urgent recommendations that were made 10 years ago to protect children online. The recommendations were made as part of a review, commissioned by former prime minister, Gordon Brown, in 2008. Yet, of the 38 recommendations that were proposed in 2008, less than half have been implemented, and almost a third have been completely ignored. At the same time, the NSPCC has reported a sharp increase in helpline calls about online sexual abuse, which have surged by 250% over the past three years.
