Bill Shorten calls for light touch to regulating sharing economy services

Australia's opposition leader, Bill Shorten, is calling for a light touch to be applied to regulating sharing economy services and releases 6 principles that would guide his approach. This would include requiring sharing economy companies, such as Uber and Helpling, to support good wages and working conditions, but not necessarily to treat their freelance workers as employees. If Shorten is elected the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and the Productivity Commission would be asked to monitor how the new regulatory approach was working and the impact on existing markets.
