National, regional and city decision-makers from over 60 European countries signed a political declaration on sustainable digital transformation at the Cities Forum held in Porto. The declaration is part of the 'Join, Boost, Sustain' initiative that seeks to "bring benefits of the digital to more people". Speaking at the Forum, the president of the European Committee of the Regions Karl-Heinz Lambertz pointed out that the issue of digital divide needs to be addressed in Europe so that 'no region or city is left behind'.
The signatories focused their discussion on two focal points that include the operationality of digital platforms as well as financing of digital and innovation platforms such as the Digital Europe Programme.
