The European Commission has published the 2020 Women in Digital Scoreboard. It notes that while women have spearheaded innovation essential to the advancement of digital technology in the past, they are nowadays less likely to have specialist digital skills and work in the field in comparison to men. When it comes to basic digital skills, data shows that the gender gap has narrowed, from 10.5% in 2015 to 7.7% in 2019. Women in Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and the Netherlands are the most active in the digital economy. Women in Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, and Italy are least likely to take part in the digital economy, either due to their employment situation, the use of Internet, or digital skills.
