But there is one fact that will never be in dispute: small business owners and employees are some of the most resilient and resourceful people around, especially when it comes to their survival. Media coverage of the extraordinary measures small businesses took to keep their doors open the last 12 to 15 months are in endless supply. Another sobering reality for small businesses (and perhaps the rest of us too), is that life after COVID-19 will not necessarily revert to the pre-pandemicmodus operandi. Pundits dubbed this reality the "new normal" to describe the different ways that post-pandemic life might be irrevocably transformed. For small business owners, this means taking account of every aspect of their businesses including operations, customer experience, human resources, and, hopefully sooner than later, growth & market expansion strategies.
We wanted to look at exactly how things might change for small businesses, so we surveyed more than 600 small businesses across a diverse set of geographies and industries including retail, finance, healthcare, and professional services. Here's a summary of the key findings:
