The Attorney General of New Mexico has filed a lawsuit against Google for collecting data of students who are using Chromebooks under the G Suite for education program initiative, without parental consent. The lawsuit accuses Google of collecting information such as, physical location of the student; search and browsing history, YouTube viewing habits, contact lists, passwords, and voice recordings and without disclosing this data collection being done.
New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas mentioned "Covertly monitoring children of all ages, despite unambiguous representations to the contrary, violates longstanding rights rooted in the common law as well as New Mexico's statutory prohibitions on unfair, deceptive, and unconscionable business practice."
