The Hong Kong's top privacy watchdog 'Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data' raided local Worldcoin offices, after the court orders were issued earlier. In particular, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner was concern about the Worldcoin's practices of iris scan and collection of the biometric data.
The Office also said it acknowledged that 'the project may have breached relevant regulations in collecting and handling sensitive personal data.' Data protection office called upon citizens to not partake into this operation. The investigation of the Worldcoin practices in Hong Kong will be conducted further.
The Worldcoin is branded as a global identity and financial network, with the project leader being Sam Altman, OpenAi CEO.
Why does it matter?
This particular action by the Hong Kong privacy watchdog is in accordance with the worldwide response on the companies way of collecting users biometrics. Several countries already expressed concerns about the World coin biometric data collection.
