According to a news report, authorities in India have revoked a ban on social media sites and restored Internet access fully in the disputed Kashmir region for two weeks. The decision comes seven months after a total communications shutdown and reversing the semi-autonomy of the state.
The information which came through a government order said the restored Internet access will remain in effect until 17 March but gave no reasons for the order nor an explanation for the time limit. The report further specified that Internet access over fixed lines will be restricted to registered customers only. State-run broadband service provider, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, has already confirmed that it has started implementing the new government directive.
