The Rwanda Education Board (REB) revealed the government plans to increase Internet connectivity in public schools from 52% to 62% by the end of 2020; which is expected to reach 100% by 2024 with a US$5 million prospect investment. The investment is a part of 'the [UN Children's Fund -UNICEF's] Giga Initiative that Rwanda recently embarked on as a lead country will help speed up the target,' as noted by REB Head of ICT in Education department Christine Niyizamwiyitira. The project has reached thus far 1459 high schools in total; 724 of them public high schools, including 678 with 4G. The government is planning to 'connect most of the remaining schools to 4G in a bid to reduce the cost,' Niyizamwiyitira elaborated.
