In an interview with Verge, the former chief security officer for Facebook and director of the Stanford Internet Observatory, Alex Stamos, expressed his concern regarding the role of TikTok in the upcoming election. Especially since TikTok captures a share of the audience that could potentially pivot the election. Stamos explained that TikTok is one of the apps that gained popularity since the last election and they are starting to deal with disinformation issues. They face a difficult task given that their content is mostly visual, making it technically harder to deal with than text-based disinformation.
