TikTok announced that it is working on ways to rate and restrict content by age so that adult content is not available to minors.
The company informed that tests were being conducted to explore how adult content can be restricted from accounts belonging to minors, either by the user themselves or their parents and guardians. In terms of age rating, the company is looking at the types of content-rating standards currently in use in movies and gaming and plans to test if creators on the app can specify the viewing age of their content.
These initiatives come after social media companies have come under scrutiny for not doing enough to protect the wellness and safety of minors on their platforms.
