Several VoIP services including Skype, FaceTime and WhatsApp are not legal in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, the executive director of the UAE's National Electronic Security Authority announced that the country has worked with WhatsApp on national security initiatives. The collaboration between public authorities and WhatsApp aims to increase the company's understanding of the UAE's concept of national security. There might be a lift of the ban for WhatsApp voice calls soon.
