According to Politico, the UK's Coronavirus tracing system did not complete mandatory privacy checks before its launch. Public Health England, the agency overseeing the system in England, confirmed that it had yet to complete a data protection impact assessment, though it is a mandatory requirement under UK law. Privacy groups had already raised concerns about how the British government may use personal information collected under its 'test and trace' system, as recently expressed in the Open Rights Groups' open letter to the UK government on the NHSX's app safeguards for marginalised groups.
